New to the United States, Spotify is a digital music program that allows users to listen to music and share it with their friends – a social media version of music. Spotify is a Swedish company, and it was publicly released in its native country in 2008 as a way for everyone to connect via music and enjoy it. Their music catalog boasts roughly 15 million songs and over 10 million registered users who enjoy their services. Spotify has become a great and ingenious way for people to discover new music as users are able to see what kinds of songs their friends have been listening to.
Recently, Spotify decided to partner with Facebook as they announced that all users would be required to log in via their Facebook information. This is incredibly smart because Facebook is the largest social media network known to date, and research shows it is growing daily, if not hourly. With that being said, this could also limit their expansion because it bars anyone without a Facebook account from using their services, and they must now rely on Facebook’s growth for any future registrations with Google+ gaining momentum.
Now that Facebook and Spotify are integrated, users are able to create public playlists for others to listen to, and they can even personalize playlists and send them to certain friends for them to browse through. Users are also permitted to drag their own music into Spotify and share them with friends in that manner if they so choose to. Last but certainly not least, Spotify also informs your Facebook friends in real time of the songs that you are listening to, that way you don’t have to manually do it yourself – this may hinder you from listening to any songs you deem “a guilty pleasure,” so listen at your own risk.
