In our line of work we always run across potential clients that say they (1) Either want to increase their Social Media presence or they (2) Want to establish a Social Media presence. Invariably we have to ask, “Why do you believe that Social Media is important to your business?” These are the top five reasons listed below -
1 – Everyone is talking about Social Media.
2 – The President of our Company says we have to start using Social Media.
3 – Our Competitors are using it.
4 – All I hear everyone talking about is Facebook and Twitter, so we need to be on it.
5 – My children tell me that I need to start using Social Media.
Now while we do attest that some of the responses may have some meat to them, Social Media is not the Silver Bullet to the marketing challenges of any Company. Granted Social Media can without question assist you in creating more intimate connections with your customers, help you move higher in Google search rankings and establish a little more street cred with us geeks, it will not however be a total encompassing solution to revenue growth.
Here’s a free tidbit that you may have not known, Social Visitors are for the most part not looking for press releases on your company or a solution to a problem on the Internet. They are looking for interesting content that they respond to and can share with others. Now if you can figure out a way to give them what they want and a way to build interactive environments including Blogs, Landing Pages and Optimization around that premise, then you’ve created a Social Media winner my friend.
